Wiltshire Council celebrates 215 new affordable homes delivered across the county

Wiltshire Council has now delivered 215 new affordable homes across the county as part of its commitment to providing high-quality, energy-efficient housing for local residents.

The milestone was reached following the completion of eight affordable homes at Corsley Heath, with a further pipeline of 576 homes in development, and more planned through land-led construction and partnerships with local developers and housing providers.

The council’s ambition is to deliver 1,000 homes across the county to directly address local housing need and the cost-of-living, with a focus on energy efficiency to lower running costs for residents.

The development at Corsley Heath which met the 200 homes milestone comprises eight homes – five of which are social rent with the remaining three properties as shared ownership. The homes were built using modern methods of construction by contractor, Rollalong. They are constructed in Ringwood, Hampshire and delivered to site by HGV. The groundworks to prepare the site for the pre-built units were undertaken by the principal contractor, Fisher and Dean. The modular units arrive on site with the kitchen and bathroom fitted and most of the wiring and plumbing already in place. A traditional roof is built on top of the unit modules which are then completed and decorated.

The name of the road running through the development is tied into local history and was chosen with support from the local parish council as ‘Maud Davies Close’ after ‘Maud Davies’ – a former researcher of Corsley in the early 1900s who pioneered social research and wrote a book about the lives of the people of the parish of Corsley in 1905. Road namings such as these help to remember and celebrate local history and spark conversations for many years to come.

Sixteen affordable homes have also recently commenced construction at Quakers Road, Devizes. The properties are a mix of 10 affordable rent and six shared ownership – taking the total homes in partnership with developer, Redcliffe to over 100 homes. Redcliffe are traditional housebuilders, specialising in high-quality homes and developments across the southwest. Redcliffe have developed sustainable and desirable homes with the council at locations including Chippenham and Upavon.

The council’s investment in affordable housing is helping to deliver well-designed, energy efficient homes in the right places – supporting residents who might otherwise struggle to access safe, secure accommodation in their local community.

Gareth Flowers, Director, Fisher and Dean, said: “Congratulations to Wiltshire Council for hitting such an important milestone. Fisher and Dean are proud to have been involved in this project, a continuation of our desire to provide much needed affordable housing to rural communities.”

Jon Burcombe, Chief Operating Officer, Redcliffe Homes, said: “Our partnership with Wiltshire Council has grown from strength to strength over the past five years, and we’re proud to be working together to deliver sustainable, high-quality homes that people are proud to call home.

“We share the council’s vision in creating developments that enhance residents’ lives and build a sense of place. We look forward to continuing this successful partnership across our six upcoming developments in Wiltshire.”

Cllr Adrian Foster, Cabinet Member for Strategic Planning, Development Management and Housing, said: “Providing affordable, energy-efficient homes is one of the most important things we can do to support people across Wiltshire. These new homes are helping residents stay in their communities, lower their bills, and feel secure about the future.

“Our focus is on delivering well-planned, sustainable developments that meet local needs and improve quality of life. Each new scheme makes a real difference to the people who live there.”

The council’s housing programme continues to support a mix of development approaches – including direct builds, acquisitions and regeneration.

Additional investment is also being made in existing council homes, helping ensure they meet a minimum energy performance rating of B. This supports the council’s wider ambitions for low-carbon, affordable housing and long-term value for tenants.
